We’re on camera for all types of reasons in today’s world, making it common for people from all walks of life to seek tips on how to look good on camera. In terms of taking care of your skin for the best outcome on camera, we’ve got you covered in this post.
In today’s world, we use cameras and videos for tons of reasons. Whether we’re taking a selfie or photos with friends and family with our Smartphone, on a Zoom or video meeting for work, creating videos for our social media accounts, or having a professional photo done, we tend to want to look our best.
So, what skin care steps can you take daily to ensure you always look your best on camera?
We turn to San Antonio-based Aesthetician Amanda McMillan for some tried and true skincare video tips on how to look good on camera, regardless of why you need to.
How to Look Good on Camera
Here are some simple steps to help keep your skin looking it’s best for the camera for the long-term.
1. Cleanse and Exfoliate
McMillan suggests you cleanse and lightly exfoliate the skin to keep it looking fresh and bright. She suggests the SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating cleanser to improve tone and texture and reveal younger-looking skin.
2. Illuminate Skin with the Right Serum
“You also want to illuminate your skin with the right serum, such as the SkinMedica TNS Advanced+ Serum,” shares McMillan, “A high-quality, medical-grade serum, like the TNS Advanced+, helps to improve the appearance of coarse wrinkles, fine lines and overall tone and texture.”
3. Hydrate and Moisturize
It’s important to moisturize and hydrate the skin. Products with HA, or hyaluronic acid, help to replenish the skin’s HA, which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that decreases overtime. HA is responsible for keeping the skin looking supple and smooth.
McMillan suggests HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator serum to make the skin supple and smooth.
4. Use Eye Cream
Around the eyes are very delicate areas of the skin that require special attention and treatment. To ensure you’re taking care of this delicate skin, “Use Eye Cream like Instant Bright Eye Cream,” suggests McMillan, “Instant Bright helps to thicken and tighten skin, reduce puffiness, and camouflage dark circles around the eye area.”
5. Use UV Protection (to protect against Sun and Blue Light)
Sunscreen will help prevent sun damage to keep your skin looking its best over time. It’s vital to apply a sunscreen daily that offers broadband UV Protection dto protect against the sun’s rays, as well as blue light rays from devices like computers, tablets, and smartphones. Look for an SPF of at least 30 or higher.
McMillan also suggests a medical grade sunscreen with high percentages of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for the best overall protection.
6. Use High Quality Make-Up
Anytime you’re applying products to your face, you want to ensure they’re high-quality, and that includes makeup. When selecting the best makeup for photos, avoid low-quality products can cause skin irritation, breakouts, and more.
Houston-based Aesthetician Krys Givens who also works for DermaTouch RN like McMillan, suggests that when choosing makeup, “it’s best to avoid ingredients like talc, glues, toxic metals, and formaldehyde.”
As a rule of thumb, anytime you’re trying a new product, it’s best to do a patch test on your inner arm 48 hours prior to choosing to use them on your entire face.
7. Cleanse and Treat Your Skin Nightly
Finally, to keep your skin in top shape, you need to cleanse and treat it nightly. This includes always removing make-up before bed and using a the appropriate skin care steps and regimen of cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating, as outlined above.
McMillan adds, “Retinol, like SkinMedica’s Retinol Complex treatment, applied at night is an excellent way to improve texture and reduce pore size.”
Additional Tips for How to Look Good on Camera
- Get enough sleep. Sleep is essential to look and feel your best. Nurse Practitioner and Professional Injector Donna Lucarini shares, “Adults should get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Sleep powers your mind and restores your body,” Lucarini continues, “Sleep hygiene is so important because it allows for your body to rest and restores your entire mind-body system, which includes your skin. Research is even now showing that a lack of 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep per night is tied to difficulty in losing weight for some patients.”
- Exercise regularly. During exercise, endorphins are released, which can improve your mood and overall well being. Also, it gets your blood flowing, which helps to keep your skin healthy and vibrant.
