Say goodbye to tired temples and hello to a refreshed, revitalized look with Juvederm Voluma XC, which recently received FDA-approval for treatment of the temples. Juvederm Voluma is also approved for chin and cheek augmentation.

Allergan, the makers of Juvederm, are at it again. Earlier this year, they earned another FDA approval for their Juvederm filler family.

“One of the newest and coolest updates with the Juvederm family with Voluma is that it just received FDA approval for the temples,” shares Houston-based Registered Nurse, Allergan Trainer, and Injector Nicole Sarmiento. By being able to fill the temples, it will help replace the collagen that has been lost and add more volume in that area. This gives more balance to the upper and lower face.”

Sarmiento specializes in injectable cosmetic treatments, like dermal filler and Botox.

What is Juvederm Voluma?

Juvederm Voluma is an HA filler that makes up the popular Juvederm dermal filler family. It is FDA-approved for several treatment areas, including the cheeks and. Voluma is suitable to inject deep into the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss. It’s also used to fill in and augment the chin region to enhance the chin profile of those over the age of 21.

Most recently, Juvederm Voluma was FDA-approved to enhance the temple region. It’s used to treat moderate to severe temple hollowing, or hallowed temples, for individuals over the age of 21. Voluma is the first and only dermal filler to receive such approval. As a temple dermal filler, Voluma can help to balance out the top and bottom regions of the face, as well as symmetry from left to right.

What are other types of Juvederm fillers?

In addition to Juvederm Voluma, there are five other filler types that make up the Juvederm family. Here are their names and what they’re each used to treat:

Juvederm Volux XC: Juvederm Volux XC is used to improve moderate to severe loss of jawline definition and enhance jawline contouring. It’s suitable for deep injection for this type of treatment in adults over the age of 21.

Juvederm Ultra XC: Juvederm Ultra XC is used for lip augmentation and to improve the perioral area around the lips for individuals over the age of 21. Ultra is also used to correct moderate to several facial folds and wrinkles, like nasolabial folds.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC: Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is injected into the facial area to correct moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. It’s suitable for people over the age of 21.

Juvederm Vollure XC: Juvederm Vollure XC is also used to treat moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles for those over the age of 21.

Juvederm Volbella XC: Juvederm Volbella XC is an injectable gel used to improve the appearance of undereye hollows. It’s also used for lip augmentation and the correction of perioral lines for those over the age of 21.

How do HA fillers work?

Sarmiento points out that there are many different types of fillers. “Some fillers are made from material like collagen, polymethylmethacrylate, calcium hydroxylapatite, autologous fat, or poly-l-lactic acid. The most popular and common type of filler is HA, or hyaluronic acid filler, like Juvederm.”

HA fillers are made from hyaluronic acid. HA is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that decreases over time. As we age, the decrease in HA can cause an increase in lines and wrinkles reduction of plumpness in the skin.

Once injected into the skin, HA fillers attract water molecules to them. They help to fill in lines and wrinkles, increase facial symmetry, add volume, and augment the chin, jawline, temples, and lips.

Are HA fillers reversible?

Ideally, you’ll love your results and won’t need to worry about reversing your dermal filler treatment. Then, over time, the filler will naturally dissolve. Sarmiento shares, “The body naturally absorbs non-permanent filler, such as Juvederm, as it starts to break down. As it’s abosrbed, the skin rebounds and resumes the form prior to undergoing treatment.”

Though, yes, if you don’t love your Juvederm dermal filler results, it’s possible for HA filler to be dissolved with an enzyme injection.

How much does a Juvederm filler treatment cost?

Juvederm filler treatment costs vary based on various factors, like the treatment area, the amount of dermal filler used, the type of filler used, the practitioner, and your location. Treatments can range anywhere from $400 to $4000 and upwards.

Since Juvederm dissolves over time, Sarmiento points out that you also want to consider maintenance treatments. “It’s important to budget for the cost of treatment maintenance, so you can keep up with your Juvederm treatments and results.”
