What is Laser Hair Removal?
Lasers heat the area at the base of the hair where the hair is formed and the resultant damage reduces hair regrowth.
What are the desired results?
Permanent hair removal.
How does it work?
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle. Therefore, your unwanted hair must be pigmented (either black or brown). Laser hair removal will not work on blonde, gray or white hairs.
Do not pluck, wax, use depilatories, or have electrolysis for at least two weeks prior to treatment. You may shave the hairs with a razor blade or an electric shaver. All cold sores should be completely healed. We may want to place you on an anti-viral medication. You also need to avoid all forms of tanning for approximately 6 weeks prior to treatment and use sunscreen with an SPF15 or higher. On the day of your treatment, please shave the designated area of all hair. The less hair above the surface of the skin will allow for a more comfortable and effective treatment. We will charge to shave the area if not shaved.
How many treatments will be needed?
Hair must be treated during a specific phase in its growth cycle, the active or anagen phase. Because hair grows in staggered growth cycles, multiple treatments are required so that all the hairs are treated during their growing phase. The number and frequency of treatments vary by body site and for each individual.
What are the risks?
As the hair is treated, redness or bruising may occur either around the hair follicle or in larger areas. The hair may be bleached or singed. The redness lasts from a few hours to, less commonly, a few days.
What is the recovery time?
