Botox injections reduce wrinkles and lines.
What is Botox?
Botox is a drug made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. While used to a number of medical conditions, its use in the cosmetic industry continues to grow in popularity.
Botox Cosmetic blocks nerve transmissions, resulting in muscle relaxation both reducing the appearance of existing wrinkles and lines and discouraging the formation of new ones.
Achieving Desired Results
Botox injections are proven to weaken the muscles and reduce wrinkles and lines such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. For certain patients, Botox may at times, also be used around the mouth or on the neck.
It is also used to decrease excessive sweating on palms and underarms, and for migraine or muscle-related headache.
The effects of Botox injections may be increased with the use of certain antibiotics (such as aminoglycoside antibiotics) or other drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission. Before your treatment, be sure to disclose any and all pre-existing medical conditions and all medications you may be currently taking before undergoing any treatment.
Pregnant women should not get Botox Injections Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
Botox injections may cause temporary headaches, hematoma ectropion, bruising, and temporary eyelid ptosis (eyelid-drooping).
After Botox injections, you will usually see the effects within a few hours to three days. Ask your physician for specific instructions for the aftercare. Do not lie down or bend over for 4 hours after Botox injections.
Botox is typically $10.00 Per Unit (see below for Typical Unit Schedule)
What is Botox “Cosmetic”?
Botox is the #1 prescriptive aesthetic treatment in the United States. It is FDA approved for muscle injection between the eyes to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary). Botox is also used off label to treat the forehead, around the eyes, and some lower face areas.
When will I see results after Botox injections?
On average, most patients will see results within 72 hours after Botox injections. For a few individuals it can take as many as 8-10 days after treatment for decreased muscle movement. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate-to-severe frown lines between your brows, also. Wrinkles and lines continue to improve for up to 30 days after treatment and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary.
How long do the results last after Botox injections?
On average, results will last for 3-4 months after a treatment. These results may vary for each individual.
One friend told me she uses 16 units between the eyes (Glabeller) and another friend uses 30 units. Is this possible?
Yes! Research based information indicates that there are four distinct patient types. Botox is a unit based product, and therefore your injector will need to work with you to discover the best number of units needed to accomplish your goals.
How experienced are DermaTouch RN’s nurses with Botox injections?
Last year we used approximately 600 vials (60,000 units) of Botox and 150 vials (45,000 units) of Dysport and this year we will exceed that and are a Black Diamond Level Account with Allergan and have a patient retention rate well over 90%. We work hard for our clients to stay on top of the most current information based on the latest product research.
Will I be able to make facial expressions?
Yes! Of course you are looking for a visible result, but Botox injections will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done”. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced by Botox. After treatment, you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and lines between your brows.
