It’s summer and it’s a great time of year to take vacations and spend more time outdoors. As with any changing of the season, it’s also a good time to check in and make sure you’re effectively taking care of your skin. The same treatment regimen might not work for our skin all year round due to the changing of the weather and our body’s response to that change. Below are some tips to consider from DermaTouch RN of Texas to ensure you’re effectively taking care of your skin during the summer.

  1. Drink plenty of water! Many of us are outdoors more during the summer, and as lovely as the sun is, the heat can cause us to become dehydrated, causing dry and ruddy skin, along with potential dizziness and other physical symptoms. Even in areas like Houston, TX with high humidity, you still run the risk of dehydration.
  2. Hydrate the skin. In addition to drinking water, another way to ensure your skin is hydrated as much as possible is using a hydrating product like SkinMedica’s HA5, a Hyaluronic Acid product that effectively hydrates the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is our skin’s natural hydrator, and it decreases as we age. Replenishing it with a great product like HA5 is a great step to any skin care regimen.
  3. Re-apply over and over. It’s wise to apply sunscreen all year round (especially to the face), and especially during the summer when you’re outdoors for longer periods of time. Reapply frequently, especially after you’ve been sweating or swimming. With all the many formulas available today, you can select a sunscreen that’s suitable for your skin type, from oil free to anti-aging.
  4. Use the right skin care products for your skin and season. Our skin often requires different treatments during different seasons of the year. In the winter, we might need more moisturizing, for example, whereas in the summer, we might need something for acne prone skin or oil free. Regardless, using high-quality skin care products with proven results is a must for both preventative and reactive skin care. SkinMedica and Obagi are a couple product lines we offer at DermaTouch RN.
  5. Repair damaged skin. You’ve been out in the sun without sunscreen, and the damage is already done. It happens. Now it’s time to use a skin care product high in soothing botanicals or aloe vera gel that will heal without irritating the skin. You can also consider laser treatments to remove and repair sun damage. We offer a variety of laser treatment plans at DermaTouch RN.

Celebrate Christmas in July at DermaTouch RN!

It might be hot outside, and we might not be seeing or feeling Christmas weather for another six months, but that doesn’t mean you need to wait six more months to treat yourself!

If you’ve considered cosmetic treatments or you need a touch-up from a previous service, it’s always a great time to stop in at DermaTouch RN. With our super low prices on everything from fillers to Botox to laser treatments, we can help you look and feel your best all year round. And even better, you’ll receive the professionalism of an experienced practitioner who will work with you to develop a personalized plan to address all of your skincare and cosmetic needs.

Reduce fat with SculpSure.

If you have fat you’ve been trying to get rid of in those hard-to-lose places, like on the tummy and sides (aka “love handles”), SculpSure is for you! SculpSure is a non-invasive, light-based body contouring treatment that helps to reduce fat cells by up to 24 percent. Once the cells are eliminated, they’re gone for good!

Turn back the hands of time with Laser Resurfacing, Fillers, and Botox.

We have some of the best pricing on Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm and Voluma, as well as Botox. Botox will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Fillers can help reduce the appearance of lines around the mouth, as well as fill in areas (like the nasolabial folds)  to help the face appear fuller and more youthful.

Feel good from the inside out with Bio-Identical Hormones.

Health starts from the inside out, which is why we offer Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. Our hormone levels often decrease as we age, which can cause unwelcome side effects, such as fatigue and mood swings. Replacing those hormones with Bio-Identical hormones will help to reduce those unwanted side effects. We use BioTE hormones at DermaTouch RN, a brand name people have come to know and trust.

Get that glow with Chemical Peels.

Chemical peels are a more aggressive facial that helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce sun damage, reduce acne scarring, and helps the face look more youthful and supple in general. We use SkinMedica Peels and Vi Aesthetics Peels to serve our patients at DermaTouch RN.

Stop in or contact us today for a free consultation and find out what other services and treatments plans we offer, like tattoo removal and laser hair removal, and check out our extensive line of skin care from some of the best companies in the industry, such as SkinMedica and Obagi!

Tips to Care for Your Skin When Working Out

It’s that time of year when many of us are hitting the gyms to get our bodies in shape for that trip to the beach or the many trips to the community pool.

We all know that working out is great for our physiques, but did you know it’s also great for our skin? The increased blood flow supports the release of toxins from our system (largely in the form of sweat) and also sends nutrients and oxygen to our skin, which supports a healthy glow. At the same time, if we don’t care for our skin before, during, and after working out, there can be some not-so-pleasant side effects, including chafing and acne. Skin conditions, such as eczema and rosacea, can also be negatively impacted by working out if you aren’t mindful of how you take care of your skin. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to avoid any negative impact on your skin while working out.

Tips to protect your skin while working out:

  1. Wash that skin! Before working out, cleanse your face to avoid an increase in acne or clogged pores. After you workout, shower as soon as possible to do the same. At the same time, be mindful if you have skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Showering too much can make the condition worse. Using a non-irritating moisturizer as soon as you shower can help. We have top-of-the-line skin care products from companies such as Obagi and SkinMedica to support you with such endeavors at DermaTouch RN.
  2. Don’t share with others. Working out is one activity where sharing isn’t a great thing. Use your own mats and towels when going to the gym or studio. This will help you avoid picking up other people’s gunk (bacteria, germs, etc.) that can negatively impact your skin, as well as your overall health.
  3. Turn down the temperature. When you have skin conditions that get worse when the skin is flushed, such as rosacea, choose to workout in a cool environment as to not make the condition worse.
  4. Use sunscreen. When you’re working out in the sun, be sure to use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 that’s “broad-spectrum” and “water-resistant.” Reapply immediately after sweating.

DermaTouch RN is here to support you.

For more information on how to support your skin during your workouts, contact DermaTouch RN for a free consultation. While you’re at it, we can help you treat some of the common skin conditions mentioned above, such as rosacea, as well as help you reduce sun damage, with laser treatments and other services. Obagi Medical Skin Care Products at DermaTouch RN

Since 1988, Obagi Medical Products, Inc. has been a leader in medical skin care products. Obagi “is a global specialty pharmaceutical company founded by leading skin care experts in  1988, and is now owned by Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc.”

Obagi means quality and results.

With a commitment to only represent the best skin care products in the industry–meaning they safely deliver the results promised–DermaTouch RN is pleased to offer several products from the Obagi skin care line. Obagi’s products help minimize the appearance of skin damage, premature aging, acne, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation. Our patients have seen a lot of success with Obagi products.

In last week’s blog, “Dana’s Favorite Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin,” Dana Mendoza, our Practice Manager, shared that she uses Obagi’s Clenziderm Acne Products to help keep her acne at bay.

Be sure you’re getting authentic Obagi products.

Also, keep in mind that, per Obagi’s website, “genuine Obagi products are available only through physicians, medical spas, and other skin care professionals,” so be sure you’re purchasing authentic Obagi products from these types of professionals. Otherwise, you might be getting a product that is not formulated correctly or is something else, altogether. It can be tempting to order such products online at a discount, but you could be jeopardizing your safety and results when doing so.

DermaTouch RN is here to help you determine the best Obagi products for your skin needs and concerns.

For a full list of Obagi products, visit Obagi’s product page, and then contact us at 281.895.9090 to discuss what products you think would work best for you. Better yet, stop on by, and we’ll be happy to meet with you to show you our full line of Obagi products. We will work together to develop a skin care regimen to meet your skin care needs and concerns!
