“Chin Forward” with Kybella in Houston!

Did you know there’s an FDA approved prescription treatment—Kybella—to help you get rid of your “double chin?” It’s true! And, the best part is, you don’t need surgery. With Kybella, there’s no downtime, and results can last for years if the right treatment protocol is in place. Even better, DermaTouch RN is offering 40% off of Kybella during the month of August! That means you can put your best “chin forward” as Allergan—the distributor of Kybella—puts it, for only $360 per vial.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella permanently destroys fat cells that are then naturally eliminated from the body. During a treatment, an average of 15 to 30 injections of Kybella is injected into the area under the chin. The number of treatments for optimal results is typically two to four, though the number of injections, treatments, and overall results varies by patient.

 When will I see results?

Many patients report seeing results after just one to two treatments with maximum results after three to four treatments. Treatments are spaced no less than one month apart.

Contact us today for more information and to schedule a free consultation. We’ll discuss your options and determine if Kybella is right for you. Check out our Kybella Q&A page for more information about Kybella, or visit mykybella.com.

Results vary and can last for several years following treatment with the right care.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments for optimal results varies between patients. Many patients see results after one or two treatments, with the typical number of treatments ranging between two and four. The number of injections per treatment varies depending on the amount of fat the patient has, and 15 to 30 injections are common per treatment.

5 Tips for Effective Summer Skin Care

It’s summer and it’s a great time of year to take vacations and spend more time outdoors. As with any changing of the season, it’s also a good time to check in and make sure you’re effectively taking care of your skin. The same treatment regimen might not work for our skin all year round due to the changing of the weather and our body’s response to that change. Below are some tips to consider from DermaTouch RN of Texas to ensure you’re effectively taking care of your skin during the summer.

  1. Drink plenty of water! Many of us are outdoors more during the summer, and as lovely as the sun is, the heat can cause us to become dehydrated, causing dry and ruddy skin, along with potential dizziness and other physical symptoms. Even in areas like Houston, TX with high humidity, you still run the risk of dehydration.
  2. Hydrate the skin. In addition to drinking water, another way to ensure your skin is hydrated as much as possible is using a hydrating product like SkinMedica’s HA5, a Hyaluronic Acid product that effectively hydrates the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is our skin’s natural hydrator, and it decreases as we age. Replenishing it with a great product like HA5 is a great step to any skin care regimen.
  3. Re-apply over and over. It’s wise to apply sunscreen all year round (especially to the face), and especially during the summer when you’re outdoors for longer periods of time. Reapply frequently, especially after you’ve been sweating or swimming. With all the many formulas available today, you can select a sunscreen that’s suitable for your skin type, from oil free to anti-aging.
  4. Use the right skin care products for your skin and season. Our skin often requires different treatments during different seasons of the year. In the winter, we might need more moisturizing, for example, whereas in the summer, we might need something for acne prone skin or oil free. Regardless, using high-quality skin care products with proven results is a must for both preventative and reactive skin care. SkinMedica and Obagi are a couple product lines we offer at DermaTouch RN.
  5. Repair damaged skin. You’ve been out in the sun without sunscreen, and the damage is already done. It happens. Now it’s time to use a skin care product high in soothing botanicals or aloe vera gel that will heal without irritating the skin. You can also consider laser treatments to remove and repair sun damage. We offer a variety of laser treatment plans at DermaTouch RN.

Contact us today to set up your free consultation to check out our skin care products and services. We are here to support you in taking care of your skin in the best way possible during the summer months.

Need to Remove that Beloved Tattoo in Just One or Two Treatments??

Whether it’s a relationship gone wrong, and now you need that tattoo removed, or you’re just over it, it’s easier now than it has ever been to get a tattoo removed! DermaTouch RN of Houston offers the PicoSure laser from Cynosure, which removes tattoos in fewer treatments than traditional tattoo removal treatments from the past.

What can I expect with the PicoSure Laser to remove my tattoos?

The PicoSure laser removes tattoos with half of the number of treatments when compared to the past options to remove tattoos. That means less pain, fewer sessions, and less cost than one might have paid in the past to have a tattoo removed. Studies show almost 75% of ink clearance in only one to two treatments! It takes about four to six weeks for optimal results to take effect.

How does the PicoSure Laser work to remove tattoos?

Using ultra-short pulses that create a photomechanical impact, the pigment or ink is turned into tiny dust-like particles that are easily absorbed and eliminated by the body through its natural eliminations processes. With each treatment, the tattoo will get lighter and lighter until it’s no longer visible. Results vary based on the individual, the number of treatments, amount and color of pigment used, and size of the tattoo.

The PIcoSure is also great for removing brown spots and treating other skin care concerns.

Contact DermaTouch RN today to discuss our tattoo removal packages. We’ll help you get rid of that tattoo in no time!

Did You Know Stress has a Major Impact on Your Skin?

Many don’t realize the following: when we’re developing in the womb, the brain and skin are actually created from the same cells. It’s no surprise, then, that there’s a very strong mind-skin connection after birth. This is one reason why our skin manifests signs of stress, like acne, hair loss, dark circles under the eyes, rashes, and more.

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) reported that 40% of respondents in a 2006 survey said they experienced persistent anxiety and stress in their life on a daily basis. In addition to the symptoms listed above, stress can make our skin look aged, dull, and fatigued. Fortunately, there are cosmetic and aesthetic treatments that can support our skin’s health to combat signs of stress and help it look its best.

Top-of-the-line Skin Care: The right skin care regimen can treat the symptoms of stress that show up on the skin, as well as prevent premature aging. We offer top-of-the-line products that offer proven results from companies like SkinMedica and Obagi at DermaTouch RN.

Laser Therapy: Laser therapy supports collagen stimulation and skin resurfacing. There’s no downtime and many see results after one session. Results vary based on the number of treatments, the area treated, and the individual.

Skin Pen II: The SkinPen II supports the body’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin with little to no downtime. The result is healthier, more youthful looking skin.

Bio-Identical Hormones: As we age, our naturally occurring hormone levels often decrease, which can lead to fatigue, hair loss, and other unwanted symptoms that can contribute to stress. Stress can also impact our hormone levels. Treatment with bio-identical hormones can support the body by increasing hormone levels, and in turn, help heal the body from the inside out. DermaTouch RN is pleased to offer BioTE hormone replacement therapy for patients.

Chemical Peels and Facials: Chemical Peels and facials are great options to support the health of the skin. They can help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, acne, age spots, and other skin imperfections, many of which can be a result of stress.

Do you need support in dealing with stress and the impact it has on your skin in Houston? Contact us today for your free consultation to see how we can support you!

7 Tips to Prevent and Repair Sun Damage in Houston, TX

Last week we shared how to identify skin cancer on your body by knowing your ABCs. Today, we’re going to share how to prevent sun cancer, so you hopefully don’t become a statistic!

We’re all born with baby skin that is soft and supple. After birth, depending on our biology and environmental factors we’re exposed to, our skin will age at different rates. The better you take care of your skin early on, the healthier your skin will remain as you age. The sun causes some 90% of skin again per the Skin Cancer Foundation.  The good news is, with the right measures, again caused by the sun can be prevented and treated.

How can I prevent sun damage?

  1. Be cautious of the sun between 10 am and 3 pm. The sun’s rays are considered the strongest during this timeframe of the day.
  2. Wear sunscreen with at least an SPF 30. In addition to an SPF of 30, The American Academy of Dermatology suggests also finding a sunscreen that says “broad-spectrum” on it. You also want a sunscreen that is water-resistant. Reapply every 2 hours throughout the day and right after you swim or sweat.
  3. Wear protective clothing. Hats, long sleeves, and pants are all supportive in protecting your skin from the sun. They also sell sun protective clothing for those who spend long hours in the sun.
  4. Forgo the tanning bed. Some states have banned tanning beds for anyone under the age of 18 due to the harm they’re considered to cause. The ultraviolet rays emitted by tanning beds can damage your skin the same way the sun’s rays can when you don’t protect your skin.

How can I treat sun damage?

Continuing on with our list, if you’ve already gotten burnt or spent too much time in the sun and it shows on your skin, then you can take action to minimize the amount of damage caused.

  1. Purchase high-quality skin care products. Choose to wear a moisturizer with SPF in it to start, and then choose a regimen that is both preventative and reactive to help you minimize the appearance of aging. At DermaTouch RN, we offer top-of-the-line products from reputable companies like SkinMedica and Obagi to ensure our patients get the results they desire.
  2. Treat a burn right away. If you get a sunburn, then treat it right away with aloe vera gel (fresh from the plant is best) or a high-quality after-sun lotion.
  3. Seek out reputable cosmetic service facilities, like DermaTouch RN. Non-invasive cosmetic treatments, like laser light therapy and Skin Pen II treatments, can do wonders to repair photo-aging and sun damage of the skin. We offer a variety of laser therapies and the Skin Pen II treatment at DermaTouch RN.

It’s true that a little bit of sun is good for you, as the sun helps to activate certain cellular functions of the body, including the production of Vitamin D. At the same time, be wise and use caution as to not get burned. Doing so can help to prevent sun cancer and premature aging of the skin.

Who Legally Can Inject Based on The Texas Medical Board RULE §193.17?

34790755 - wrinkle reduction, the lion

Not all MedSpa and Aesthetic Centers are created equal. In fact, you want to do your homework and have at least a basic understanding of who can perform certain cosmetic procedures in Houston under Texas law. With so many MedSpa and Cosmetic procedures being offered to supplement income for certain health and beauty establishments, you want to make sure you walk through the door of a reputable and safe establishment that knows what they’re doing, and you want to make sure they’re following the legal code of requirements.

So this might seem a bit boring to some, but please bear with us, as it’s important to at least know the basics when it comes to who can or cannot legally inject for cosmetic procedures before any practitioner puts her or his hands on you.

What is the Purpose of Texas Administrative Code RULE §193.17?

As outlined in Texas Medical Board RULE §193.17 – Nonsurgical Medical Cosmetic Procedures

“the purpose is to establish the duties and responsibilities of a physician who performs or who delegates the performance of a nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedure… These procedures can result in complications, and the performance of these procedures is the practice of medicine. This rule shall not be interpreted to allow individuals to perform procedures without a physician or midlevel practitioner being onsite, or a physician being available for emergency consultation or appointment in the event of an adverse outcome.”

Who Can Legally Inject for Cosmetic Procedures in Texas?

Per the Texas RULE §193.17, a midlevel practitioner, in addition to a physician, can inject with a written order. A midlevel practitioner is defined as “a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse.” Procedure is defined as “a nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedure, including but not limited to the injection of medication or substances for cosmetic purposes, the administration of colonic irrigations, and the use of prescription medical device for cosmetic purposes.”

In other words, nurses can inject with a written order. A doctor or midlevel practitioner must see the patient and then write an order that is good for a year to allow for future H&P (history and physical examinations)—a review of current prescriptive drugs and over the counter medications of the patient to assure continued safety of treatments rendered.

When is it illegal to inject in Texas?

Per the definitions above, only a physician or midlevel practitioner—a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse—can inject for cosmetic procedures such as fillers, Botox, and any procedure that requires numbing injections, and so forth.

However, delivery of prescriptive drugs must be part of the individual’s scope of practice. Anyone who is injecting that falls below the level of a nurse is practicing illegally, even if employed by a physician. It’s tough for the medical board to police all of the physicians who utilize illegal practices unless they are turned in to the medical board by another organization or individual.

Who Do You Prefer for Your Filler or Botox Injections?

All things considered above, having a licensed, qualified physician or registered nurse backed by experience is the preference when it comes to conducting and overseeing cosmetic procedures; and don’t be fooled, in some establishments, the registered nurse has more skill and experience than the physician does when it comes to injections, so ask about experience.

DermaTouch RN has a highly trained staff backed by years of experience in cosmetic procedures, including Founder and Director of Nursing, Renee Moschitto, RN, BSN, and Medical Director, R. Scott Yarish, MD and Board Certified Medical Surgeon. DermaTouch RN’s treatment and care for the patient is unprecedented for MedSpas today, with national recognition from patients.
