Cosmetic/Aesthetic Service Centers and MedSpas Need to Educate You!

If you walk into a MedSpa or Aesthetic Service Center to request a procedure and they don’t take the time to educate you on the procedure and what it does and how it works, then proceed with caution. Not all, but many centers are all too quick to take your money, even if they believe a product or procedure isn’t the best for you. Also, it’s good to know how a product or service is impacting your body, so you can truly understand long-term effects, including potentially frustrating side effects.

At DermaTouch RN, we pride ourselves in taking the time to listen to and educate our patients. Our Founder, Renee Moschitto, feels very strongly about taking this type of approach. In a recent Q&A, she shared the following when asked why she believes educating patients is important:

“I want patients to understand what the product is actually doing to their skin and body. Take Botox, for example; we are changing the nerve endings, so the treatment amount often doesn’t stay the same from the very first time they have a treatment—the very first treatment is the strongest response. Also, how the dermal fillers function in our bodies is important to understand. Some hydrophilic products draw a lot of water to them, while others don’t, impacting the result for the patient.

We tend to stay away from certain types of products that can cause problems for patients, as well. For example, I had a patient that had talked to someone about silicone under the eyes, which is not safe and can move, so I’m glad she came in, because I had the opportunity to educate her on these issues.

So educating patients on the sorts of results they can achieve is essential. Also making sure they understand there are no FDA approved products for under the eyes, so it’s essential to have a skilled practitioner handle such injections. We have a lot of success with certain HA products under the eyes.”

As you can see with Renee’s example and explanation, patient education is important. Even if you think you don’t want to know what a product does “as long as it works,” bear in mind that each person is different and product efficacy and impact is different for each individual. Voice your questions and concerns openly to ensure you walk away with peace of mind. And if an establishment does not take the time to answer your questions, or if it does not provide answers you’re comfortable with, walk away. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Contact us today at DermaTouch RN, so we can take the time to answer any and all of your questions to support your skin care needs and concerns.

Celebrate Christmas in July at DermaTouch RN!

It might be hot outside, and we might not be seeing or feeling Christmas weather for another six months, but that doesn’t mean you need to wait six more months to treat yourself!

If you’ve considered cosmetic treatments or you need a touch-up from a previous service, it’s always a great time to stop in at DermaTouch RN. With our super low prices on everything from fillers to Botox to laser treatments, we can help you look and feel your best all year round. And even better, you’ll receive the professionalism of an experienced practitioner who will work with you to develop a personalized plan to address all of your skincare and cosmetic needs.

Reduce fat with SculpSure.

If you have fat you’ve been trying to get rid of in those hard-to-lose places, like on the tummy and sides (aka “love handles”), SculpSure is for you! SculpSure is a non-invasive, light-based body contouring treatment that helps to reduce fat cells by up to 24 percent. Once the cells are eliminated, they’re gone for good!

Turn back the hands of time with Laser Resurfacing, Fillers, and Botox.

We have some of the best pricing on Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm and Voluma, as well as Botox. Botox will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Fillers can help reduce the appearance of lines around the mouth, as well as fill in areas (like the nasolabial folds)  to help the face appear fuller and more youthful.

Feel good from the inside out with Bio-Identical Hormones.

Health starts from the inside out, which is why we offer Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. Our hormone levels often decrease as we age, which can cause unwelcome side effects, such as fatigue and mood swings. Replacing those hormones with Bio-Identical hormones will help to reduce those unwanted side effects. We use BioTE hormones at DermaTouch RN, a brand name people have come to know and trust.

Get that glow with Chemical Peels.

Chemical peels are a more aggressive facial that helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce sun damage, reduce acne scarring, and helps the face look more youthful and supple in general. We use SkinMedica Peels and Vi Aesthetics Peels to serve our patients at DermaTouch RN.

Stop in or contact us today for a free consultation and find out what other services and treatments plans we offer, like tattoo removal and laser hair removal, and check out our extensive line of skin care from some of the best companies in the industry, such as SkinMedica and Obagi!

With our low prices, great monthly specials, and proven results, you can’t go wrong by addressing your skin care concerns and cosmetics needs at DermaTouch RN today.

Getting Wedding Ready to Look Your Best (Within Four Months or Less)!

It’s that time of year. Weddings are in the air! If you’re getting married in the near future, you, of course, want to look and feel your best for what’s considered to be one of the most important days of your life! Or, maybe you’re the mother or the bride or groom, and you too, want to look your best. At DermaTouch RN, we’re here to help with our pre-wedding suggestions that we’ve outlined below. You’ll be able to show up for the big day with your head held high!

More than four months out:

If you still have some time before the big day arises, consider Ultherapy to lift the chin, neck and brow area, while also smoothing the lines on the chest. Ultherapy is a way to lift without going under the knife. This FDA-approved treatment is non-invasive and supports the body in producing and regenerating collagen production through the use of ultrasound. One great thing about Ultherapy is the images that are taken before and after treatment that prove it’s working!

It’s can take two to three months for maximum results to appear, so you want to come in at least four months before the wedding day for a consultation and treatment.

Two to four months out:

Facials and Chemical Peels

We all want that beautiful glow, especially on our wedding day. Facials are great skin treatments to get rid of skin impurities to refine and hydrate the skin. Chemical Peels are a more intense treatment to consider, as well. The appearance of fine lines, acne, rosacea, and overall skin texture and tone can be improved with facials and chemical peels. It often takes a series of facials or peels for maximum results, which is why you want to come in at least two to four months out (four is best) to allow time between each treatment.

Botox

Get rid of those fine lines on the forehead and crows feet around the eyes with Botox before the big day. It can take up to a week for Botox to work, and results last four to six months, depending on the patient, areas treated, and the number of units used. You want to allow enough time for touch-ups, so at least a month out is best for Botox.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers like Juvederm and Voluma can help add volume to the face and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, as well as the depth of nasolabial folds. To allow for touch-ups and to get the results you’re looking for over time, you want to have fillers injected at least two to three months out, if not more. It can take more filler than one realizes for desired results, which is also why from a budget perspective, giving yourself more time is helpful.

At DermaTouch RN, we love helping the bride-to-be and mother-of-the-bride (or groom) feel and look their best. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation to put a game plan together to help you prep for your big day. So, when the big day comes, you’ll be able to walk into the room with confidence!

Celebrate Men’s Health Month at DermaTouch RN!

June is Men’s Health Month, a month “anchored by a Congressional health education program” and  “celebrated across the country with screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities,” per the organization’s website.

Why Men’s Health Month?

Per the Men’s Health Month website, “The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This month gives health care provider, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. The response has been overwhelming with thousands of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe.”

Of course, men’s health should be a focus all-year-through, not just in June, though bringing awareness to it for an entire month is a positive thing to do given our busy lives these days. At DermaTouch RN, we support events that truly support health and well-being, and Men’s Health Month does that.

Celebrate Men’s Health Month with DermaTouch RN.

Many believe MedSpas and aesthetic services are for women only, though we see more and more men walk through our doors every week. Men care about their appearance as much as women do in many cases, and when men feel good about how they look, it shows.

At DermaTouch RN, we’re also about feeling good from the inside out, so we take a whole person and body approach to what we do. If you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside. DermaTouch RN is here to support you in assessing what you need for overall health and well-being, including aesthetic and cosmetic services to address skin care concerns. We offer Botox and dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Voluma, as well as fat reduction treatments and services to treat skin conditions such as rosacea, skin tags, and more for men and women alike.

We also offer bio-identical hormones for overall well-being. As we age, our natural hormone levels often decrease, causing fatigue, mood swings, and other undesirable symptoms; for men, we offer Biote testosterone pellets to support healthy testosterone levels to help avoid those undesirable symptoms.

In the month of June, we’re also celebrating Father’s Day with a Botox special.  Those who bring the special man in their life to DermaTouch RN for Botox will receive 30 units of Botox at $9.00 a unit for him or herself and his or her special man. Plus, each individual will receive 10 free units of Botox!

Celebrate Men’s Health Month with us! Stop in or contact us today to set up a free consultation for yourself or the important men in your life to assess your and/or their health and skin care concerns and possible treatment options. Enjoy our Botox special while you’re at it!

We put our patients first and will work with you to develop a plan of action to treat all of your skin care and cosmetic needs.

Our Goals are to Keep Our Patients Happy and Safe at DermaTouch RN

38494171 - happy woman

It’s important that any MedSpa or Aesthetic Services provider put the patients’ and clients’ needs and welfare first, which is what we stand by at DermaTouch RN. Providing services that support our client’s overall health and cosmetic goals is why we’re in business, and without our patients and clients, we don’t have a business!

Some of our goals to support our clients, and consumers, in general, include:

  • Offering state-of-the-art treatments and services.
  • Focusing on the overall health and well-being of our patients.
  • Educating our staff, as well as our patients, on industry best practices, and more.
  • Giving back to our patients through specials, promotions, and discounts.

DermaTouch RN is a State-of-the-Art Aesthetic and Wellness Center that focuses on the overall well-being and health of each patient.

At DermaTouch RN, we’re not just about cosmetic services. We also offer holistic health solutions like nutritional consultations and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), as well as skin care and cosmetic support, to support the overall health and needs of our patients.

Our staff—made up of some of the top doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and aestheticians—is also backed by years of experience and training, so we know we’re bringing the best service and care, as well as the newest and most innovative technologies to our patients. Our staff is comprised of Allergan (the maker of treatments such as Juvederm and Botox) trainers, Advanced Botox injectors, and is nationally recognized as being one of the top 20 cosmetic providers it the country.

Education and training are important at DermaTouch RN.

Aside from ongoing education for our staff, we also believe it’s important to educate consumers on industry best practices, illegal and legal practices, and the specific needs of the aging body. By educating clients through our blog, website, consultations, in-office printouts, and more, we can ensure our patients’ safety and increased knowledge so they can make informed decisions.

Giving back to our clients is a must.

We grow, in part, because of our referrals. When you refer a new client to us, we offer a 10 percent referral reward—you’ll receive 10 percent of what your friends spend during their first visit. You can use the reward towards Skin Medica skin care products, any laser treatment, any chemical peel, skin pen treatments, or an Ultherapy treatment.

We support our clients in keeping up with their Brilliant Distinctions® by Allergan® coupons and points, as well, which means every time you spend money on Allergen products, such as Botox, Kybella, Latisse, and Juvederm, you receive points that equate to dollars off of future services.

In addition to the above discounts, we offer Monthly Specials to pass our savings onto the client.

To find out how we can educate you and support your overall health and wellness goals, contact us today. We’re here to help when you’re ready!

A Lift for Fall

Why Now is the Perfect Time for Skin Rejuvenation

As sun kissed skin of summer fades in the forgiving light of fall, now is the ideal time to begin some pre-holiday prep with skin rejuvenating treatments.

Fall treatments perfect time for Holiday party perfection.

Fall treatments perfect time for Holiday party perfection.

Skin rejuvenation today encompasses a host of different types of treatments – from “SkinPen®” to Ultherapy Uplifting Ultrasound.  The most popular, though, this time of year is skin enhancing laser resurfacing.

The fall and winter months are ideal for this type of procedure, as patients are encouraged to refrain from sun exposure both before and after treatments.  The new skin exposed following treatment is particularly vulnerable to the sun’s harsh rays – something that is less concerning heading into fall and winter, when sun intensity and outdoor activity are reduced.

And procedures performed now will ensure beautiful skin in time for holiday parties!

Laser resurfacing treatments target:

  • Sun spots and damage
  • Wrinkles
  • Photo-aging
  • Solar lentigines (pigmented flat or slightly raised lesions that, unlike freckles [ephilis], do not fade in the winter months)
  • Facial telangiectasia (condition causing dilation of the capillaries, which appears as small red or purple clusters)
  • Vascular and pigment irregularities

The most popular areas for skin resurfacing include the face, neck and chest. This type of skin rejuvenation can dramatically enhance the youthful appearance, brightness and texture of the skin – while encouraging the new development of collagen.

Christie Brinkley, the 62-year-old ageless beauty and lifelong model, revealed in a recent interview that while BOTOX® and dermal fillers are a part of her beauty routine, she believes that laser treatments are “miraculous” (New Beauty magazine, Fall-Winter 2016).

The two primary categories into which laser treatments fall include ablative (removes thin layers of skin, prompts collagen growth) and non-ablative (subtly stimulates collagen growth).

Ablative Skin Resurfacing

Ablative skin resurfacing directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light over the skin, vaporizing skin cells damaged at the surface level and precisely removing skin layer by layer.  The intense heat from the laser causes the right amount of controlled damage to the target area, stimulating the underlying skin and prompting collagen formation.  New smother, tighter skin then forms.

This procedure requires a topical anesthetic, which is applied 30 to 90 minutes prior to treatment.  More intense treatments may also include a mild sedative.  Patients wear protective eye shields during the procedure and receive an anesthetic ointment following the procedure to reduce discomfort.

Non-ablative Skin Resurfacing

The fractional lasers used in non-ablative skin resurfacing use lower energy levels than ablative lasers. During the procedure, a laser head delivering heat into the skin through thousands of tiny, deep columns known as microthermal treatment zones is passed over the treatment area in a series of horizontal and vertical overlapping passes.  Patients may experience a slight prickling or burning sensation during the process.  The heat from the laser promotes collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines, though the results are less dramatic as ablative skin resurfacing and multiple treatments may be required.

Recovery

Aftercare instructions will vary depending on the type of resurfacing procedure you undergo, though protecting the treated skin from the sun is underscored for all.

Recovery for a non-ablative skin resurfacing treatment will be more rapid than an ablative skin resurfacing procedure, which may require two to four weeks to peel and begin to heal.

The best type of laser treatment and number of treatments required will be decided following a thorough consultation with an experienced professional and assessment of the target area(s) as well as overall patient health.  Ablative treatments, in particular, should be administered by a registered nurse experienced with such laser treatments and technology.

The laser systems selected for use at DermaTouchRN include Lyra-i™ Laser System, Aura-i™ Laser System and the Sciton Laser.

Unlike Other MedSpas, DermaTouch RN Passes the Savings on to The Client!

If you look at the prices at many MedSpas and Aesthetic service providers, they are definitely not for those on a budget. For many, cosmetic procedures are considered luxury services that very few can afford. But that’s not the case with DermaTouch RN.

DermaTouch RN Passes Their Savings on to You38005270 - retro woman with a jar of money having an idea how to spend money. shopping concept

DermaTouch RN is a leader in cosmetic and aesthetic services. People come from around the United States for treatments at their clinic. This is in part due to the fact that they always put the patient first. In addition, DermaTouch RN has some of the most competitive pricing options available. Why? Becuase they buy in bulk to get a better deal on pricing, and instead of pocketing the money like many MedSpas do, they choose to pass the savings on to their clients.

For example, DermaTouch RN offers the one and only $8.00 a unit New Client Botox Special (min 50 units), and the prices for Botox for existing clients remain low at only $8.25 – $9.25 per unit depending on the number of units purchased and payment type. You can read more about Botox pricing on their Home and Monthly Specials pages.

Legal vs. Illegal Practices – Do You Know Who is Injecting You?

When you enter a MedSpa or cosmetic service provider’s office, you expect to receive treatment from a professional, licensed individual who knows what he or she is doing. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. With the increase in “17032306 - legal vs illegal illustration design over a blackboardspa” parties, medispas, and other establishments boasting to offer cosmetic services such as Botox and fillers, it’s important to do your homework to ensure you’re working with an establishment that’s legally performing the services you seek. DermaTouch RN just celebrated its ten year anniversary, which is in part due to our ethical and legal practices as well as our focus on putting the patient’s needs and safety first.

Did you know that all injectables require a prescription?

When we speak of injectibles, we mean fillers such as Juvederm products (Voluma, Ultra, Ultra Plus), Restylane, Kybella, Sculptra, Radiesse, Botox, and Dysport. These all require a prescription before being injected. Further, certain chemical peels require a prescription.

Who can legally inject with a prescription?

Per our recent blog post, “Who Can Legally Inject Based on Texas Medical Board Rule 197.13?” we shared that, “Per the Texas RULE §193.17, a midlevel practitioner, in addition to a physician, can inject with a written order. A midlevel practitioner is defined as “a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse.”

Who should NOT be injecting you?

Licensed Estheticians of any sort are not permitted to inject or use any product or procedure that comes in contact with or penetrates the dermis layer of the skin. In other words, it is illegal for an esthetician to be injecting you, even if delegated by a doctor. Unfortunately, this type of practice happens more often than it should.  Also, an esthetician is not authorized to use lasers for hair removal, teeth whitening, or skin resurfacing.

Medical assistants who are injecting offer another area of concern. “Medical assistant” has no true legal significance in Texas. There are no required training, licensing, or certifications. When direct care is provided by a medical assistant, the patient must be notified of such. Medical assistants are not permitted to write prescriptions and in most cases are prohibited from doing cosmetic laser treatments, fillers, or Botox injections without a prescription. Doctors may be subject to disciplinary action for professional misconduct if they allow a medical assistant to do such things.

How can we ensure legal vs. illegal practices?

Always do your research before having any type of cosmetic treatment performed. Ask for licenses and credentials. If you find that an esthetician or individual is performing injections or services he or she should not be, please contact the Texas Medical Board at 512-305-7030 or 1-800-248-4062 or http://www.tmb.state.tx.us. We want to keep our community and patients safe, first and foremost, and the only way to stop such illegal action from happening is to report it.
