Injection Skill Levels are Different from Injector to Injector

When you’re in the market for Botox or dermal fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, you want to know that you’re in good hands. You want to be able to walk into an establishment with confidence knowing you’ll walk out with the results you desire. The goal is to do your homework and ask the right questions to find a MedSpa or cosmetic service provider you are comfortable selecting to handle your dermal filler or Botox injections.

You want to work with an injector backed by numbers and experience.

The skill level and experience of injectors can vary greatly, even within a single establishment. Below are some questions to consider when you’re in the market for an experienced injector.

How many years has the establishment been in business and what’s its reputation? You want to find a MedSpa or aesthetic services provider backed by at least 5 years in the business with a positive reputation. You can do research online to find reviews, or ask for referrals.

How many procedures has the practitioner completed on individuals? You want to find a provider that has several successful procedures on his or her resume!

How many years of experience does the practitioner have in the services you’re seeking? Someone with at least a couple years of experience is ideal.

Do you tend to take a conservative approach to fillers and Botox? Each injector has a different approach to looking at facial anatomy and what is needed in way of dermal fillers and Botox, as well. Some are more conservative and prefer to begin with a smaller amount vs. inject too much filler that a client might not be happy with. It’s easier to add filler vs. remove it.

Doctors are not necessarily better than nurses.

We’ve shared this before, but to reiterate, just because someone has the title of Doctor does not mean he or she will be better equipped to inject fillers or Botox compared to a nurse. Nurses often have more experience in administering fillers and Botox when compared to doctors, so again, ask to see how many successful procedures or years of experience the individual has before choosing a doctor over a nurse for your cosmetic procedures.

It’s important that any MedSpa or Aesthetic Services provider put the patients’ and clients’ needs and welfare first, which is what we stand by at DermaTouch RN. Providing services that support our client’s overall health and cosmetic goals is why we’re in business, and without our patients and clients, we don’t have a business!

Some of our goals to support our clients, and consumers, in general, include:

  • Offering state-of-the-art treatments and services.
  • Focusing on the overall health and well-being of our patients.
  • Educating our staff, as well as our patients, on industry best practices, and more.
  • Giving back to our patients through specials, promotions, and discounts.

DermaTouch RN is a State-of-the-Art Aesthetic and Wellness Center that focuses on the overall well-being and health of each patient.

At DermaTouch RN, we’re not just about cosmetic services. We also offer holistic health solutions like nutritional consultations and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), as well as skin care and cosmetic support, to support the overall health and needs of our patients.

Our staff—made up of some of the top doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and aestheticians—is also backed by years of experience and training, so we know we’re bringing the best service and care, as well as the newest and most innovative technologies to our patients. Our staff is comprised of Allergan (the maker of treatments such as Juvederm and Botox) trainers, Advanced Botox injectors, and is nationally recognized as being one of the top 20 cosmetic providers it the country.

Education and training are important at DermaTouch RN.

Aside from ongoing education for our staff, we also believe it’s important to educate consumers on industry best practices, illegal and legal practices, and the specific needs of the aging body. By educating clients through our blog, website, consultations, in-office printouts, and more, we can ensure our patients’ safety and increased knowledge so they can make informed decisions.

Giving back to our clients is a must.

We grow, in part, because of our referrals. When you refer a new client to us, we offer a 10 percent referral reward—you’ll receive 10 percent of what your friends spend during their first visit. You can use the reward towards Skin Medica skin care products, any laser treatment, any chemical peel, skin pen treatments, or an Ultherapy treatment.

We support our clients in keeping up with their Brilliant Distinctions® by Allergan® coupons and points, as well, which means every time you spend money on Allergen products, such as Botox, Kybella, Latisse, and Juvederm, you receive points that equate to dollars off of future services.

In addition to the above discounts, we offer Monthly Specials to pass our savings onto the client.

FDA-Approved Label vs. Off-Label: What Does It Mean?

34790757 - wrinkle reduction, the lion

If you’ve done research online for certain MedSpa or cosmetic procedures, you might have stumbled across the term “off-label.” In the US, prescription drugs require an FDA approval to be prescribed to patients, but these drugs are often prescribed for uses outside of the FDA approval guidelines for that drug—that’s where the term “off-label” comes from. Per WebMD, “Off-label” means the medication is being used in a manner not specified in the FDA’s approved packaging label, or insert.”

Why does the FDA allow off-label use?

After the FDA approves a drug—which is an extensive process where the FDA evaluates the safety, effectiveness, and indication for a drug—healthcare providers can generally prescribe the drug for an “off-label” use if they come to the determination that it is medically appropriate for a particular patient. A practitioner might choose to take such an approach if all other prescriptions have failed or if the patient would benefit from the off-label use, as is the case with many cosmetic and aesthetic procedures.

What cosmetic treatments are considered FDA approved vs. “off-label?”

Botox is FDA approved for the crows feet and glabella area (the area between the eyes) to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, Botox is often used in the forehead, nose, lip, jaw, chin, and underarm areas, as well, meaning these are “off-label” uses for the prescription.

Likewise, some fillers, such as Juvederm, Voluma, and Restylane, are FDA approved for use in the nasal labial folds, lips, and cheeks, but are also used in the chin, bridge of the nose, and under the eyes.

What do I need to consider if a practitioner uses “off-label” practices?

Many MedSpas and clinics offering cosmetic services will apply treatments and prescriptions for both their FDA-approved and “off-label” uses. Doing so serves the client by offering the benefits of a prescription, such as Botox or fillers, to fully meet the patient’s goals. What you want to be sure of is that you’re working with a reputable provider that knows what they’re doing and has conducted several of the procedures you’ve been prescribed. Read more about selecting a reputable provider by reviewing “What to Look for in a Reputable MedSpa and Cosmetic Services Establishments.”

DermaTouch RN just celebrated their 10 year anniversary and plan to be around for several more decades to come. Contact us today to determine the best approach to meet all of your skin care and cosmetic needs and to better understand “off-label” utilization!

The Importance of Understanding Facial Anatomy

39822140 - beautiful woman before plastic surgery operation cosmetology. beauty face

In last week’s post, we shared with you that the face is not symmetrical from right to left, though we often don’t realize it. This is part of our natural facial anatomy, and any reputable MedSpa or aesthetic service provider needs to take asymmetry into consideration when treating patients.  You can read the full post at Our Faces are Not Symmetrical from Left to Right.

Everyone’s face structure and skin have different attributes that will require different types of treatments.

Symmetry is not the only aspect of facial anatomy that goes into determining the right type and amount of treatment for cosmetic patients. Everyone’s face is different and requires different needs and support to achieve similar results across patients. For example, skin texture, skin color, and the size of pores all vary between patients. Due to these differences, results will vary and treatment times and the number of treatments or amount of filler needed will vary by patient.

Take laser treatments, for example, if your skin is lighter, you might need to go with a less aggressive treatment level as to not damage your skin. For very dark skin tones, you might need to forgo certain laser treatments altogether as to not create pigmentation issues.

If you have large pores, some fillers might make those pores appear larger, whereas the right amount of filler could help smooth them out. The same goes for acne scars.

Find a reputable cosmetic treatment facility that understands facial anatomy.

What’s important is that you find a reputable and knowledgeable practitioner who has done several treatments and understands facial anatomy. Going to a professional facility with trained staff is the only way you’ll get the treatment results you desire.

DermaTouch RN has been going strong for more than 10 years now, and it’s because we put the patient first. Contact us today so we can determine the right cosmetic treatment plan to fit your needs and facial anatomy!
