What to Look for In Reputable MedSpa and Cosmetic Service Establishments

Are you in the market for aesthetic services? Or maybe you’re looking to switch MedSpa establishments in the Houston area? Further, maybe you’re simply doing your research to find out what’s available in the way of a30658860 - hand writing trust with blue marker on transparent wipe board.nti-aging and skin care treatments as a first-time MedSpa patient.

Whatever your reason, it’s important to do your research and identify reputable providers in your area that you can trust. You don’t want to be a statistic or end up with an unpleasant result or experience. When conducting your research, you want to avoid any MedSpa or aesthetic service provider that:

  • Has a long history of customer dissatisfaction.
  • Doesn’t take the time to listen to you and understand your needs.
  • Doesn’t meet state requirements and regulations.
  • Makes you feel uncomfortable for any reason.
  • Doesn’t take the time to educate you on the different products and services available to support your needs and goals.
  • Is quick to push products and services on you.

Now that we have some of the characteristics that you want to avoid in a MedSpa, let’s focus on what you do want to watch for:

Experience and Credentials. You want to work with a MedSpa that has a staff backed by years of aesthetic experience and education. Ask how long the provider has been offering services, as well as how long the practitioner has been providing the services you’ve requested or have been offered. You want to work with someone who has at least a couple years of experience and several successful procedures under his or her belt! Also, just because someone has the title of Doctor doesn’t mean he or she will be better equipped to provide cosmetic services. In many instances, nurses have more experience in administering fillers, Botox, and other cosmetic procedures, so again, ask to see how many successful procedures or years of experience the individual has before making a decision.

Positive Reputation. Do an online search and identify providers backed by positive reviews. With that said, don’t let a few negative reviews steer you away if the facility has plenty of positive reviews. Some people do, unfortunately, like to post negative reviews without good reason at times, so use good judgment when doing your research.

Innovation. It’s great to work with a MedSpa or Aesthetic Services provider who stays on top of current trends and technology. There’re lots of new and exciting advancements constantly being made when it comes to skin care and cosmetic treatments. Innovation might even mean bringing you a more cost-effective version of a current service, instead of simply offering the name brand of a product or service that can cost a lot more. For example, dermal skin resurfacing, using a dermal pen, is offered under a few different name brands, and providers might choose the less expensive brand to pass the savings on to their patients.

Cost Effectiveness. Cosmetic services aren’t inexpensive, by many people’s standards, but many MedSpas do offer discounts, specials, and pass vendor discounts on to their patients. Just because one facility charges more for a product or service doesn’t mean they’re more qualified or better than another provider, either. Do your homework to find a reputable provider that fits within your budget.

Customer Service You Can Trust. Find an establishment that makes you feel good every time you visit! From the staff to the environment, you want to work with a team a team you know you can trust. This is your appearance and health that we’re talking about, after all!

At DermaTouch RN, our team of reputable providers takes the time to listen to our patients to ensure they understand the procedures and options available to them, while also offering top-of-the-line and innovative products and services. We also care about our patients and have some of the most reasonable rates available for cosmetic procedures. People travel from around the country to work with our staff of dependable and qualified practitioners.

Not all MedSpas are created equal, so do your homework and take your time before deciding which MedSpa is right for you. Regardless of who you choose to work with, you want to feel confident and comfortable that you’re getting the best service and quality of care available to you.

Choose Wisely – Don’t Lose Money If Your Aesthetic Service Provider Goes out of Business!

Over the past couple of years, many MedSpas and cosmetic and aesthetic service businesses have closed their doors

44632853 - two wooden chairs in a waiting room with a clock hanging on the wall above themwithout any signs of concern or warning. To make things worse, patients and clients have been left with nothing to show for the services they prepaid for, and employees have been left unemployed without notice. Just recently, Dr. Tattoff closed tattoo locations in Texas and Arizona, leaving customers half-inked or in the middle of the tattoo removal process, and American Laser Skincare clinics did something similar in 2014, impacting hundreds of thousands of patients and employees throughout the United States.

How can you choose a solid establishment you can trust?

Things happen in business— lawsuits, malpractice suits, poor marketing, lack of customers, the downturn of the market—all of which can leave a business facing bankruptcy or dissolution. This leaves clients, patients, and employees at a loss. To avoid this type of situation, there are signs to watch for and be aware of when it comes to selecting a reputable establishment for your cosmetic and aesthetic services needs.

  • Make sure the practice has positive reviews. Though you want to overlook one or two bad reviews, as some people are simply negative, if you find an establishment with several bad reviews online, then keep looking for a different establishment.
  • Check out their prepay policies. If you prepay for services, find out what happens if the services aren’t rendered due to an issue on the provider’s part. Also, use your prepaid services as soon as possible to ensure you get what you paid for.
  • Ask how long they’ve been in business. If they’ve been around for more than five years, they’ve likely gotten over the tough hump and initial growing pains many new businesses face. Having more than a decade of success is even better.
  • Find out if they’ve ever operated under another name. You can ask directly, or do some online research to find this out. Often, if a business has had issues in the past, they’ll change their name to rebrand and remarket themselves to hide their past issues from consumers.
  • Check out the morale of the work environment and office. If you walk into an establishment and everyone seems unhappy or stressed, then it might be a sign that the establishment is having issues, and you might want to look elsewhere.

DermaTouch RN is proud to say it’s been going strong for over a decade. With moral and sound business practices, as well as great customer service that puts the patient and client first, they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

Who Legally Can Inject Based on The Texas Medical Board RULE §193.17?

34790755 - wrinkle reduction, the lion

Not all MedSpa and Aesthetic Centers are created equal. In fact, you want to do your homework and have at least a basic understanding of who can perform certain cosmetic procedures in Houston under Texas law. With so many MedSpa and Cosmetic procedures being offered to supplement income for certain health and beauty establishments, you want to make sure you walk through the door of a reputable and safe establishment that knows what they’re doing, and you want to make sure they’re following the legal code of requirements.

So this might seem a bit boring to some, but please bear with us, as it’s important to at least know the basics when it comes to who can or cannot legally inject for cosmetic procedures before any practitioner puts her or his hands on you.

What is the Purpose of Texas Administrative Code RULE §193.17?

As outlined in Texas Medical Board RULE §193.17 – Nonsurgical Medical Cosmetic Procedures

“the purpose is to establish the duties and responsibilities of a physician who performs or who delegates the performance of a nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedure… These procedures can result in complications, and the performance of these procedures is the practice of medicine. This rule shall not be interpreted to allow individuals to perform procedures without a physician or midlevel practitioner being onsite, or a physician being available for emergency consultation or appointment in the event of an adverse outcome.”

Who Can Legally Inject for Cosmetic Procedures in Texas?

Per the Texas RULE §193.17, a midlevel practitioner, in addition to a physician, can inject with a written order. A midlevel practitioner is defined as “a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse.” Procedure is defined as “a nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedure, including but not limited to the injection of medication or substances for cosmetic purposes, the administration of colonic irrigations, and the use of prescription medical device for cosmetic purposes.”

In other words, nurses can inject with a written order. A doctor or midlevel practitioner must see the patient and then write an order that is good for a year to allow for future H&P (history and physical examinations)—a review of current prescriptive drugs and over the counter medications of the patient to assure continued safety of treatments rendered.

When is it illegal to inject in Texas?

Per the definitions above, only a physician or midlevel practitioner—a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse—can inject for cosmetic procedures such as fillers, Botox, and any procedure that requires numbing injections, and so forth.

However, delivery of prescriptive drugs must be part of the individual’s scope of practice. Anyone who is injecting that falls below the level of a nurse is practicing illegally, even if employed by a physician. It’s tough for the medical board to police all of the physicians who utilize illegal practices unless they are turned in to the medical board by another organization or individual.

Who Do You Prefer for Your Filler or Botox Injections?

All things considered above, having a licensed, qualified physician or registered nurse backed by experience is the preference when it comes to conducting and overseeing cosmetic procedures; and don’t be fooled, in some establishments, the registered nurse has more skill and experience than the physician does when it comes to injections, so ask about experience.

DermaTouch RN has a highly trained staff backed by years of experience in cosmetic procedures, including Founder and Director of Nursing, Renee Moschitto, RN, BSN, and Medical Director, R. Scott Yarish, MD and Board Certified Medical Surgeon. DermaTouch RN’s treatment and care for the patient is unprecedented for MedSpas today, with national recognition from patients.
